Land Based Sector Materials

The materials available for downloading from this webpage have resulted from consultation and piloting across the land-based sector.

These materials provide the basis for a one day professional development course which delivers a systems approach to sustainable development and illustrates how this can be applied to professional practice. Because the land-based sector is so diverse (LANTRA convene 17 different industry groups in the sector) these materials have been constructed in such a way that they can be adapted to specific audiences within the sector by changing the content of the pre-course reading and the case studies.
The materials presented here are focused on professionals working in horticulture.

Try rolling your cursor over this image and consider some of the questions that are raised.
This gives you an idea of the types of issues raised in the PP4SD land-based materials.

How many people are employed? Will the produce be sold locally?what kind of products might be grown here?are there more energy efficient alternatives Should we grow 'out of season' products? What type of energy is being used in this greenhouse? What are the chemical inputs? What knowledge, experience and skill would the workforce require?

The materials are in separate sections for downloading as set out below.
You are welcome to use these materials providing you credit PP4SD.
