The materials available for download from this webpage have resulted from consultation with a range of professionals and professional institutions in the financial services sector and from piloting and subsequent delivery with Barclays Bank.
These materials provide the basis for a one day professional development course which delivers a systems approach to sustainable development and illustrates how this can be applied to professional practice. They are designed to make the participants think about the business case for sustainable development and the link between sustainable development and corporate social responsibility.
PP4SD recommends that before the course is delivered “pre-course reading” is sent out to participants. This reading should include the course objectives and contemporary articles from news sources relating to issues in the financial services sector to which a systems approach could be applied.
The pre-course reading can pose a series of questions to stimulate the participants’ thinking before
the course. For example:-
How necessary is it to have a precise definition of sustainable development?
Is sustainable development an appropriate
business concern?
Are economic growth and sustainable development compatible in the long term?
Are there alternative forms of growth that can be seen as sustainable in the broadest sense and not just in the economic sense?
How can CSR values be implemented across
a large organisation?
How can CSR activities be audited?

The materials are in separate sections for downloading as set out below.
The “PP4SD Financial Services Programme” sets out the programme for the day and the other
downloads support the presentations and activities in this programme.
